Ran across this article about Keeping Sanity & Balance As an Entrepreneur and it reminded me of high productivity/collapse cycle that so many business owners and entrepreneurs unknowingly (or knowingly) participate in.
I say suffer because sustained high Productivity is a wonderful thing if it can be sustained, but it can’t even if you live on caffeine, sugar, and other carbs. Collapse and Burnout are lurking nearby if you drive yourself relentlessly. I have a client who needed a very clear example of this cycle before saying no more. He put all of his energy into a six month deal that he was 100% sure would close. Sadly, his prospect decided to make a last minute change and picked another vendor. Regardless of why this occurred, what it reminded my client of was the pattern which he often repeats. He identifies large and exciting deals, blinds himself to signs that don’t align with a positive outcome and pushes himself to the limit. When these deals don’t work out, he is devastated and needs days to recover. (continued… “Productivity Means Managing Cycles of Activity and Collapse”)
