It was a Tuesday. I saw a tweet that caught my eye. You know how the twitter is, hell, depends on what time of day you open your reader as to what you are going to see. Sometimes it blows my mind at all the crap that I DO NOT see on twitter considering the how much I do see in the short amount of time I am reading twitter. But I digress.
I saw a tweet. It was about #BlogathonATX. I followed and read. Who are these people? They seem witty yet normal. Promotional but not condescending. Excited but not cheesy. I liked. I figured out that @ileenieweenie was behind this thing and I contacted her. I wanted in.
You see I am not a blogger. I do a podcast. When in Austin. It is huge and popular … in my minds eye. I have great ideas. I work hard some weeks to move the ball forward but alas my day job and my need for $ to pay the mortgage and HEB get in my way. But you know what? I never stop. I keep trying to improve and reinvent and look for new ideas and approaches. That hunger to learn more is what struck a chord with me when I read through the BlogathonATX and IleenieWeenie’s tweets and blog.
I believe in a couple of core things. One, that audio is not dead. As an audio podcaster in a YOUTUBE internet I struggle. But I am firm in my belief that telling stories about life in Austin in an audio only format is compelling. Audio allows the mind to explore and imagine in a way that video cannot duplicate. Listen to NPR and tell me otherwise. Two, Austin has an enormous amount of talented people. People that are not recognized enough if at all for the quality of work they are producing. We all need celebrities. And Austin has some great personalities. People we read about all the time. People that make it around twitter, blogs and the paper every month. But for my podcast I look for people, maybe like me, that are talented and are exploring that talent. We might not ever make it to the local celebrity status. But we are having a blast along the way.
Enter BlogathonATX. BlogathonATX is people helping people explore and develop their talent. BlogathonATX can help a person who wants to be the next Austin celebrity or the person that has grand plans in their mind’s eye but needs a little guidance to help focus it and get it out on the internets.
BlogathonATX offers that big tent approach. All are welcome.
Writing is not my strong suit so I rather share my story with audio. I ask that you take a few minutes and listen this piece I put together and gain a deeper understanding into what BlogathonATX has to offer. Listen Here
Who knows, you could be the next Austin blogger celeb! I hope to see you Sept 15th.
