Pulitzer Prize-winning sportswriter Red Smith is reputed to have said, “There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and open a vein.” Variations on the quote have also been credited to novelist Paul Gallico. The typewriter has been replaced by the computer keyboard, but nothing has changed. Writing is still tough and many a drop of plasma has spilled onto my screen. Still, for many of us who blog, the writing part is still the easier part of the process. It’s the technology and design part that befuddles those of us who lack those skills. Blogathon has proven to offer me a treasure trove of ideas and help to get me through the mysteries of themes, layouts and SEO. As the writer of a moderately successful blog about TV news in Austin, I am thankful for what I have learned at my first two Blogathons, and I am looking forward to the next on September 15.
