Austin Bloggers Gather for Blogathon
Kristin McCasland, August 25, 2010
Austin, TX – It all started as a “random” tweet about spending a day blogging. From there, #BlogathonATX has exploded onto the Austin social media scene and is now being sponsored by Mashable, Treaty Oaks Rum and Torchy’s Tacos — just to name a few.
Ilene Haddad, the creator of #BlogathonATX, said she was having difficulty finding time to publish posts on her graphic design blog. She thought it would be fun to get together with friends, food and coffee and “bust out a few posts.” So, she sent out a tweet to her followers to see who wanted to join in. So many people expressed interest that she created Blogathon. Continue reading…
Austin Blog-A-Thon a go for Saturday
Omar L. Gallaga, August 26, 2010
Back in 2007, a flurry of news stories was starting to ask — as social media began to take off — whether blogging was dead (or at least dying).
We answered with a story about the state of blogging in Austin which ran before that year’s South by Southwest (the year, incidentally, that Twitter began to take hold). Since then, Twitter and Facebook have had astronomical growth, but blogging has, if anything, flourished here. Food bloggers, mom bloggers, tech bloggers and bloggers who write about fashion, live music and other Austin-centric topics still find an audience and use social media to promote their writing. Event encourages open exchange of ideas among local bloggers
Anna M. Gonzalez, August 25, 2010
Members of the Austin blogging community are getting ready for an intensive marathon.
The 12-hour #BlogathonATX event is set up to encourage an open exchange of ideas, allowing established and soon-to-be bloggers to learn from others in the community.
“Participants can make the day about what they need–whether that’s catching up on their personal or business blogs or learning about content development and PR from some of our local area experts,” event organizer Ilene Haddad said. Continue reading…
Austin’s Ileenie Weenie Turns Teeny-Weeny Idea into BlogathonATX
John Egan, September 2, 2010
Austin, Texas, graphic designer Ilene Haddad had been neglecting her blog, which she began earlier this year. So one day on Twitter, Haddad—better known in Austin by her Twitter identity, Ileenie Weenie—casually asked whether anyone would be interested in gathering for a day of blogging and eating and chatting.
Haddad’s simple Twitter invitation, born of her desire for more accountability as a blogger, evolved into the first-ever BlogathonATX.
On Aug. 28, about 50 bloggers crammed into an East Austin coworking space for the inaugural BlogathonATX. About 60 people had signed up. In the evening, even more bloggers showed up for a happy hour. Continue reading…

Kristin McCasland, January 21, 2011
Austin, TX – Central Texas bloggers, entrepreneurs, social media professionals and writers plan to “blog their faces off” later this month for BlogathonATX Part Deux in East Austin.
The first BlogathonATX took place back in August. It was so successful, Ilene Haddad, the event’s creator, decided to host another one. Continue reading…
BlogathonATX Part Deux: You are not alone
Omar L. Gallaga, January 25, 2011
Last summer, graphic designer and entrepreneur Ilene Haddad asked her Twitter followers (who know her by the clever handle”@Ileenieweenie”) if they’d, you know, like to get together and blog for the day or something. No big whoop.
To Haddad’s surprise, what she thought might be a small-scale potluck turned into a big blogging event called BlogathonATX she ended up organizing. “A few people responded. Then it kind of went nuts,” she said. “It got to be bigger than a coffee shop or my house could handle.” Continue reading…
